Detectives arrested a man in Barisal town today for his alleged crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Md Forkan Mallik in Rupatoli bus stand area of the town around 9:00am, reports our Patuakhali correspondent quoting Jafrul Hasan, a sub-inspector of Patuakhali DB police.

The Court of Patuakhali District and Sessions Judge Bimal Chandra Sikder sent him to jail after he was produced before the court this afternoon.

Forkan, 62, is a resident of Chhailabuina village in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali.

Abdul Hamid, a villager of Chhailabuina, filed a war crimes case with the local police station in 2009 accusing Forkan for killing people and torture of women in 1971, the DB police said.

Forkan remained fugitive since the case was filed.

On March 31, the case documents were sent to the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka.
