Voting has been cancelled at three polling centres in Dhamrai, on the outskirts of Dhaka, and Patuakhali following violence and vote rigging allegation today.

Of the centres, one is in Amrail of Dhamrai while the two others are in Patuakhali Sadar upazila.

Meanwhile, at least five activists of Awami League and BNP were injured in Amrail area of Dhamrai as supporters of both the parties clashed centring allegation of vote rigging by ruling party men, reports our Savar correspondent.

Meanwhile, voting at 13 more polling centres in Dhamrai, Comilla, Chittagong, Patuakhali, and Chuadanga suspended temporarily on allegation of vote rigging and snatching ballot boxes and papers by the ruling Awami League activists, report our correspondents.

DHAMRAI

A clash ensued in Dhamrai area when the supporters of AL and BNP tried to take control of Amrail Government Primary School polling centre, leaving five injured.

The election official cancelled voting in the centre following the violence, reports our Savar correspondent.

CHITTAGONG

Voting at Chhoto Hatiya Hazi Laxmibibi Adarsha Ebtadiya madrasa in Hatiya upazila suspended since 10:30am as the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and AL snatched away six ballot boxes from the centre.

Voting at Azimnagar Government Primary School centre in Fatikchhari upazila was suspended for an hour since 11:30am following a clash between the activists of AL and BNP, said Presiding Officer Md Rashidul Islam Chowdhury.

PATUAKHALI

Ruling AL men snatched away ballot boxes and ballot papers from Purba Morichunia Darus Sunnat Dakhil Madrasa and Purba Balaikathi Government Primary School polling centres of Sadar upazila around 9:45am.

Following the incident, election official cancelled voting in the centres, reports our Patuakhali correspondent quoting Najmul Kabir, district election officer.

Meanwhile, elections at six polling centres remained suspended on allegation of vote rigging by the ruling AL men.

COMILLA

One hour into the elections began, the authorities suspended voting at Kolagram Government Primary School centre in Barua upazila after unidentified miscreants hit the presiding officer with sticks following an altercation, report a correspondent from Comilla.

The gang members, two of them wielding sticks, started a quarrel with Presiding Officer Moinuddin Mahmud Shahjahan Bhuiyan bringing allegation of vote rigging. At one stage, they hit Bhuiyan with the sticks.

He was whisked of to Barua Upazila Health Complex.

Voting was also suspended at Boro Sapmara Primary School and Boroiyakandi Primary School centres in Meghna upazila since 10:00am after miscreants tried to snatch ballot boxes.

CHUADANGA

Voting remains halted at Konderpur Government Primary School in Jibonnagar upazila since 9:3am as miscreants set fire to three rooms inside the centre and tried to snatch ballot boxes, Upazila Election Officer Abu Daud told The Daily Star. 

Resisted by the members of law enforcing agencies, the gang members also blasted at least five crude bombs at the centre but none was reported injured.
