Verdict delay irks BCB boss

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon expressed his disappointment over the tribunal's delay in submitting the detailed verdict regarding fixing allegations in the second season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
While a short-verdict -- submitted by the three-member tribunal in February -- found Dhaka Gladiators' co-owner Shihab Chowdhury guilty and discharged six others as not guilty, Papon and the ICC are in pursuit of the complete verdict, which will explain the reasons behind the decisions.
“I am very concerned about this issue. In the last ICC board meeting before the (T20) World Cup they asked me a number of questions which I could not answer because I did not have the detailed verdict. After we get the verdict we will sit with the ICC and decide our next course of action.
“The last time I talked to the members of the tribunal they said that they will submit the complete verdict by the end of this month. If I don't get the verdict by the end of this month, then I will send a letter to the tribunal enquiring about the matter,” said Papon.
Giving an example of the barrage of questions that he faced during the ICC meet he said, “For instance, if we speak about the matter of (Mohammad) Ashraful, they asked me that how can a person who has admitted to fixing be punished but the party from whom he has taken money be discharged? I could not answer that.”
While Gladiators' co-owner Shihab was charged guilty, another owner Salim Chowdhury -- Shihab's father -- was found not guilty.
With regards to the delay, the convener of the three-member committee Justice Khademul Islam Chowdhury said, “This is a very big case and we have done plenty of work to give out the short verdict. We will try our best to submit the detailed verdict as soon as possible. We are working on it.”
Justice Chowdhury however informed that the detailed verdict will not include the sanctions to be imposed on Ashraful and the others who confessed to wrongdoing and that a separate hearing would be organised in court in order to decide their fate.
“We need to sit at court again in order to decide the kind of punishment to be given to those who have been charged and those who confessed. We have not decided a date for that, but it will be completed as soon as possible,” said Justice Chowdhury.  
In a short verdict submitted in February, the tribunal cleared six out of the nine who were accused of fixing. They include players Mosharraf Hossain, Mahbubul Alam, Darren Stevens, Gladiators bowling consulstant Mohammad Rafique and Gladiators' officials Salim Chowdhury and Gaurav Rawat.                  
Apart from the tribunal, Papon also spoke of restructuring the BCB with the election of a vice-president and the hiring of a CEO being his top priority. He further stated that the board is in the hunt for specialist fielding and spin bowling coaches.
