Ustad Azizul Islam on flute enthrals audience

Music aficionados of the port city enjoyed an evening of enthralling classical music on flute, on Thursday. Six Rotary Clubs of Chittagong jointly organised the music evening titled “Rotary Cultural Programme-2014”, featuring solo flute recital of Ustad Azizul Islam at the auditorium of Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Chittagong.
The Captain of a merchant vessel, Azizul Islam spent lonely time of his bay life practicing flute and listening to the maestros of classical music of the sub-continent like Panna Lal Ghosh.
The evening started with a 40-miniute flute presentation with varied alap and vistaar.
Following the presentation, he performed two self-composed gats, and a piece on Raga Chandrakauns. His expressive recital and subtle works on notes received rounds of applause from the audience.
Pandit Gopal Mishra from Kolkata accompanied on tabla with the artiste.
The evening came to a close with performances of two short dhuns in Raga Khamaj and Bhatiyali.
Md Jahangir Alam and Md Harunur Rashid accompanied the Ustad on tanpura and dotara. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was the chief guest at the programme, where Md Younusur Rahman, chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation was present as the special guest.
