US officials meet Hefajat leaders in Ctg

Officials of the US embassy in Dhaka yesterday met with the leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam at Darul Ulum Muinul Islam Madrasa, the central office of the organisation in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong.
The officials inquired about various issues including the 13-point demand of Hefajat, its organisational activities, Shapla Chattar incident of May 5 last year, and curriculum of the madrasa and Qawmi education, said a press release.
US embassy's political officer Kathleen Gibilisco and assistant political expert Lubain Chowdhury Masum went to the madarsa around 10:00am and held a two-and-a-half-hour discussion.

Hefajat Secretary General Junaid Babunagari, Joint Secretary General Muinuddin Ruhi, and Organising Secretary Azizul Hoque Islamabadi, among others, were present on the occasion.
