UP member shot dead in Pabna

Miscreants gunned down a union parishad member at his house in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna early today.

Deceased Faroque Hossain, 45, a member of Failjana union Parishad, was general secretary of BNP ward No. 2 of the union unit, said Subrata Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Chatmohar Police Station.

Police detained Shahjahan Ali, chairman of the union parishad and also BNP president of the unit; and Amirul, a neighbour of Faroque; suspecting their link with the murder, the OC said.

The killing might have been committed following a previous enmity between Faroque and Shahjahan, the police official said.

A gang of armed miscreants opened fire at sleeping Faroque through window of his Nimgati house around 1:00am, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Pabna Medical College and Hospital where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).

Faroque succumbed to his injuries on way to RMCH around 6:00am, the OC said.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

A murder case was filed against three people Shahjahan and Amirul and six unnamed persons.

Later, police detained the UP chairman and neighbour from the village.
