36 baby pandas make big public debut

A total of 36 baby pandas have made their big public debut to the people of Ya'an in China at the Bifengxia breeding centre.

The youngest and the eldest amongst the cubs were one month old and about five months old respectively, the facility said in a release.

The cubs were born at the Shenshuping breeding centre in the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province in China, reports Mashable.

According to IUCN, after decades of conservation work, the giant panda population rose by 17 percent between 2004 and 2014. Roughly around 2,060 giant pandas exist today, it reported.

In September 2016, IUCN removed the giant panda from the endangered list, and reclassified them as "vulnerable"—  meaning they are less likely to go extinct.
