Train hits tomtom in Gazipur, two killed

At least two people were killed and eight others injured when the Khulna-bound Sundarban Express hit a 'tomtom' (locally made shallow engine-run three wheeler) at a railway crossing in Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur this morning.
An unidentified person brought to the Gazipur General Hospital dead while Farid, 35 succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon there, said Syeda Siddiqui, physician of the hospital.
The rail crash took place at Mouchak level crossing in the upazila, police said. The wounded were rushed to nearby hospital and clinic for treatment.
The accident occurred when a Khulna-bound Sundarban Express hit the tomtom while it was crossing the Mouchak level crossing ignoring the signal around 10:15am, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting Saiful Islam, sub inspector (SI) of the Mouchak Police Outpost.
Railway security measures were absent at the point, the correspondent reported.
The ill-fated accident left 8 riders of the tomtom injured, the SI said.
