Ayesha Siddiqua, hospitalised due to alleged torture by police constable husband for dowry, filed a case against the man on Saturday night.
The accused -- Md Abul Bashar, a constable of Dinajpur Police Station, is on leave for seven days from Thursday, and is yet to be arrested, sources said.
Leaders and officials of different women organisations and NGOs were present when Ayesha filed the case on charge of torturing her for dowry.
Ayesha, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Utrashashi village in Nilphamari Sadar upazila, and Bashar, son of Abdul Gafur of the same area, got married in 2004 but later Bashar started torturing her demanding dowry.
On Tuesday last, Bashar severely tortured Ayesha demanding dowry of Tk 3 lakh which he said was needed to bribe his authorities for getting promotion as assistant sub inspector, said Ayesha.
Allegedly failing to get support from officials at Dinajpur Police Station, Ayesha came to Dinajpur Press Club and the journalists admitted her to Dinajpur Sadar Hospital where she is still under treatment.
The victim's elder brother Abu Nasri said they are likely to take her to Rangpur or Dhaka for better treatment.
Referring to the case filed by Ayesha, Md Altaf Hossain, officer in charge of Dinajpur Police Station, said action will be taken after getting the nod from high officials.
Meanwhile, Ayesha and her family members alleged that Bashar started threatening them of dire consequences as they filed the case against him.
