Tornado kills 3 in Jamalpur

Three people, including a businessman, were killed as a tornado swept through Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur this morning.

The deceased are: Masum, 30, and Falu, 65, an owner and a worker of cheera (flattened rice) mill respectively; and Misher Ali, 35, a farmer, in Bakshiganj upazila, reports our Jamalpur correspondent.

Masum and Falu died on the spot when the tin-shed roof of the mill located at Sharmara fell on them during the storm around 10:45am, said Mostasinur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bakshiganj Police Station.

Misher was killed in house collapse at Gopalpur Bazar in the upazila, said the OC.

The tornado also damaged 100 houses and 50 shops in Bakshibazar, Islampur and Melandah upazilas.

Of the three upazilas, villages of Bakshiganj were mostly affected by the tornado, Ershad Hossain Khan, the upazila nirbahi officer, said.
