The High Court today directed the Department of Immigration and Passport to issue a passport to Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President Nurul Haque Nur within three days.

The bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah delivered the verdict following a writ petition filed by Nurul Haque Nur.

According to the petition, Ducsu VP Nurul Haque Nur submitted relevant papers to obtain a passport in July 2019.

But, the department concerned refused to issue a passport, saying that there were cases against him.

Then Nur submitted the writ petition to the HC in August 2019 challenging the legality of the department's refusal.

Following the writ petition, the HC in January this year issued a rule asking the authorities to explain why they should not be directed to issue a passport for Nur.

After holding a hearing on the rule, the HC today delivered the verdict.

Advocate Mohsen Rashid appeared for Nurul Haque while Advocate Touhidul Islam argued for the department of immigration and passport.
