‘Robber’ killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’ with cops

An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with police in the Sundarbans in Koyra upazila of Khulna early today.
Deceased Hasan Ali Sana, 32, son of Alim Sana of No. 4 Koyra village in the the upazila, was second-in-command of a local robber gang, known as ‘Ranga Bahini’.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive in Dabura area of Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district and arrested Sana last night.
Later, he was handed over to Koyra Police Station around 11.00pm yesterday.
Following his confessional statement, a team of police launched a drive along with him to recover arms in in Hongshu Rajerchar area of the Sundarbans around 2:00am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Sana’s cohorts fired gunshots in a bid to snatch him, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, which triggered a “gunfight”.
Sana suffered bullet wounds during the gunfight and doctors declared him dead he was rushed to Koyra Upazila Health Complex.
Three policemen were also injured during the “gun battle”.
Confirming the incident, Harendranath Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Koyra Police Station, said Sana was wanted by police in several robbery cases filed with different police stations.
They also recovered three shutter guns and 10 cartridges from the spot.
The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
