Road accidents kill 3 in the last two days

Three people died in road accidents across the country over the last two days, reported our correspondent and a news agency.

In Rajbari, an elderly man was killed after being hit by an ambulance at Kollanpur bus stand area under Sadar upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Afaz Uddin Sheikh (82), our Faridpur correspondent reported.

Quoting locals, Masud Parvez, Officer-in-Charge of Allahdipur Highway Police Station, said "The accident took place after an ambulance hit Afaz Uddin while he was crossing a road in front of his house in the area. This killed him on the spot."

In Satkhira, a betel leaf trader was crushed under the wheels of a bus in front of Kumira Secondary School in Tala upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Abdus Sattar (35), hailing from Raripara of Tala upazila, reported UNB.

Kazi Wahid Morshed, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station, said the bus of 'Hanif Paribahan' from Dhaka hit Sattar while he was going to Patkelghata market on his bicycle, leaving him dead on the spot.

In Jashore, college student Jihad Hossain was killed after his motorbike hit a stationary truck in Churamonkathi patrol pump area of Sadar upazila on Monday night, reported UNB.

Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Jihad fell from his running motorbike after it hit a stationary truck at around 10pm. This happened as he was returning home to Ichhali village from a local fair along with nine friends on three motorcycles.

In critical condition following the accident, locals rushed him to Jashore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead around10:30pm, the OC added.

The body was taken to the hospital's morgue and a case was filed in this regard
