AL won't instigate violence, but ensure people's safety

Awami League won't instigate any violence during the youth rally of Jubo League and the grand rally of BNP on the same day, its General Secretary Obaidul Quader said today.

The comment comes as tensions are building ahead of the rival rallies on July 27.

"However, the AL government will ensure the safety of people's lives and property if violent incidents occur," he said while addressing the introductory meeting of the party's education and human resources sub-committee at its central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka.

"Around 70 percent of the country's population is eagerly waiting to vote for AL. People are our strength, and we are not afraid of anyone," he said.

Commenting on student politics, he said, "The beauty of student politics has lost some sheen, and we need to revive its glory."

Quader also said, "A quiet revolution is happening in the development of Digital Bangladesh by Sajeeb Wazed. He works in silence and does not seek self-promotion."

The rally, which the youth front termed "March of Jubilant Youth", will be held at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram.

Jubo League said the rally is a way to protest the BNP-Jamaat's "murder, conspiracy, anarchy and violence" across the country.

Earlier on July 22, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that the party will hold a grand rally in the capital on July 27 to press home its one-point demand for the resignation of the Awami League government.
