American motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson has announced plans to spun out a new business dedicated to building electric bicycles.

The new company, named Serial 1 Cycle Company, hopes to bring its first line of products to market in spring 2021. The name of the company was inspired by the company's oldest-known motorcycle, a 1903 vintage with a serial number of 0001.

Serial 1 has released several photos of its first model, a pedal-assist electric bicycle with retro design elements. Information about its performance or other details are currently kept behind closed doors.

Harley's venture into the e-bike market is part of their internally branded restructuring plan called "The Rewire." The company hopes to move away from its biker gang image and create a new line of products that are more palatable to people with less aggressive lifestyle.
