Burglars looted Tk 1.95 crore from Brac Bank's Joypurhat town branch after breaking open its vault sometimes last night, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.
The burglars cut the wall of bank housed on the first floor of Shahjahan Plaza in the main town of the northern district, the report added.
After cutting the wall, the miscreants broke the vault, Prothom Alo quoted Adbur Rashid Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, as saying.
In primary estimation, the burglars looted around Tk 1.95 crore, he added.
The sum could be confirmed once Joypurhat branch manager of the bank, who is now in Dhaka, returned to the town, he said.
Top officials of the local administration including Joypurhat Additional Police Super Abdul Mannan visited the spot around 10:00am today.
Officials concerned of the bank refused to make any comment in this regard.
On March 7 this year, around Tk 30.8 lakh was taken away from Sonali Bank's Adamdighi branch in Bogra by digging a 30-feet tunnel from a nearby furniture shop into the vault.
