Mobile data service starts to resume nationwide

After almost 12 hours of outage, the mobile data service, mainly 3G & 4G, started to resume nationwide. Readers have informed The Daily Star that they were able to connect to 3G/4G internet on their smartphones from around 4.15 PM today.

Sources from BTRC have informed us that, as per the government's direction, operators will resume 3G & 4G service in Dhaka Division from 4 PM, Barisal Division from 5 PM, and Khulna from 6 PM.

During this nearly half-day outage of 3G & 4G internet, mobile data-dependent operations, i.e. ATM Booth, Point of Sale (POS), online banking services, ride-hailing services, were severely affected.

Many informed about their frustration due to the outage of 3G & 4G services throughout the day.

Md Imran, an uber driver, informed that he could not get a single ride from the morning. "I usually get at least four to five ride requests before Jumma, but today I was unable to get any customers", he informed Daily Star.

Nowrin Jahan, a development worker, who arrived in Dhaka's Gabtoli Bus Terminal in the morning, informed that she was stuck with heavy luggage in the morning and could not get any car through the ride-hailing service. She said, "Initially, I thought there was some problem with my internet. If my operator had sent me a text informing me about the outage, I would have taken alternate measures."
