Govt made content removal request for 51 content to TikTok in first half of 2021: reports

Between January to June this year, the government had made 51 requests to TikTok to remove or restrict content on the social media platform, reveals a recent report published in TikTok's newly launched Transparency Centre. 

Additionally, the government had also requested the removal or restriction of one TikTok account to the authorities of the social media platform, reveals the report published on December 2, 2021. According to the report, TikTok complied with all the 52 requests in response to government demands and had taken actions to remove or restrict them as they violated its Community Guidelines.

The report also reveals that in terms of government requests to remove or restrict content or accounts on TikTok, Russia tops the chart with requests to review 2130 content and 347 accounts. 

According to another report in the Transparency Centre, the social media platform received three legal requests for user information from the country's law enforcement agencies during this five-month period. However, TikTok did not comply with any of the legal requests received.

The reports were a part of TikTok's H1 2021 Content Removal Reports housed in TikTok's revamped Transparency Centre, launched on December 3. Key highlights of the reports included in the Transparency Centre include the volume of suspected underage account removals made or the number of ads rejected for not meeting TikTok's standards.
