Glitch removes most pre-2014 photos from X, formerly Twitter

X, formerly known as Twitter, reportedly has a new glitch where posts before December 2014 with images or hyperlinks attached to them are not visible. This glitch was first noticed by a Twitter user named Tom Coates and later reported on by news platforms The Verge and The Independent.

According to the original post by Tom Coates on X, almost a decade's worth of pictures and videos from the early 2000s were removed from the social media platform. According to the community notes on that post, images before/around 2014 are still saved on X's server, however some links, especially those with 't.co', Twitter's built-in web link shortener, appear to be broken.

The famous Oscars tweet is currently not showing the photo with the post.

At the time of writing, images on famous tweets such as the 2014 Oscars group photo by Ellen DeGeneres are currently missing on X. In place of the image, the tweet only shows an inaccessible hyperlink. Back then, this was the most 'retweeted' post on Twitter, with over 2 million shares.

Neither X's owner Elon Musk nor current CEO Linda Yaccarino has made any public statements regarding this glitch yet.
