Apple reveals their most downloaded apps of 2021

Earlier today, Apple revealed the list of their most downloaded apps this year, as well as choosing 15 apps and games, the winners of the App Store Awards 2021.

The top three most downloaded free iPhone apps were TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Here are the full lists below.

The selection for Apple App Awards 2021 was done by the global editorial team of Apple App Store. Their focus this year was bringing out innovative, creative and revolutionary concepts built by global developers.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, said that the developers awarded this year's App Store Awards winners have "harnessed their own drive and vision" while "sparking the creativity and passion of millions of users around the world".

Below are the Apple App Store Awards 2021 winners:

  • iPhone App of the Year: Toca Life World, from Toca Boca

Connecting Toca Life apps into one big app, this simulator-like app allows the user to make their own world with customizable stories.

  • iPad App of the Year: LumaFusion, from LumaTouch

A popular multi-track video editor favoured by professional filmmakers and journalists around the globe.

  • Mac App of the Year: Craft, from Luki Labs Limited

A writing app with easy note-taking features and flexible documentation structure.

  • Apple TV App of the Year: DAZN, from DAZN Group

A sports-watching app where users can exclusively stream NFL games 24/7.

  • Apple Watch App of the Year: Carrot Weather, from Grailr

A fast and easy to use weather app with accurate forecasts and colourful user interface.

  • iPhone Game of the Year: "League of Legends: Wild Rift," from Riot Games

The ever-popular MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) that still sparks hype among fans worldwide.

  • iPad Game of the Year: "MARVEL Future Revolution," from Netmarble Corporation

With a roster of playable Marvel Comics characters, Marvel's first open world RPG mobile game has garnered much popularity in its first three months.

  • Mac Game of the Year: "Myst," from Cyan

An adventure game with stunning graphics and beautiful gameplay.

  • Apple TV Game of the Year: "Space Marshals 3," from Pixelbite

Story-driven stealth action game with new modes and missions frequently added.

  • Apple Arcade Game of the Year: "Fantasian," from Mistwalker

Exploration-based Japanese role-playing game with a very familiar Final Fantasy vibe.

Apple also announced five apps for their "Trend of the Year" awards. This year's trend was 'Connection', to signify the ever-growing expansion of the digital world and how international movements can connect people from all over the world.

The five apps awarded under this title are: "Among Us!" From Innersloth; Bumble, from Bumble Inc.; Canva, from Canva; EatOkra, from Anthony Edwards Jr. and Janique Edwards; and Peanut, from Peanut App Limited.
