BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today advised Awami League leaders to read books on history and said Tarique Rahman has “revealed truth of history” from different books.

Comparing the BNP senior vice-chairman with Cuban undisputed leader Fidel Castro, the BNP acting secretary general said, “After his revolution, Castro in a court said I may be hanged, but history will embrace me. And we know history has accepted him.”

“There were enough information and data what Tarique Rahman said in London. If Tarique Rahman is wrong then prove it by providing proper evidence and information,” Fakhrul called upon AL leaders while speaking at a protest meeting at the Jatiya Press Club.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the BNP, organised the meeting titled “continuous lying against Tarique Rahman.”

“Please read books on history including the one of Muktijuddher Purpapor Kothopokothon of AK Khandker,” Fakhrul said adding: “In London Tarique Rahman has revealed historic truth from different books. If those books are wrong, then you can tell this.”

In his speech, Fakhrul did not explain about Tarique’s historic revelation.

On March 25, the elder son of BNP chief Khaleda Zia claimed that his father late president Ziaur Rahman was country’s first president. In another statement on April 8 Tarique, who has been living in London since 2008 for treatment purpose, claimed Bangabandhu illegally became prime minister in 1972.

Tarique’s comment triggered huge criticism in political arena. AL leaders in and outside parliament lambasted Tarique and Khaleda. They claimed influenced by Pakistan secret service agency ISI, Tarique made the remarks aimed to distort country’s Liberation War history. Some AL leaders launched blistering personal attack on Tarique and Khaleda.

Pointing to AL senior leaders’ recent attack on Tarique and Khaleda, Fakhrul said in the name of giving reply to Tarique, some respected AL leaders used abusive and indecent languages on BNP leaders. “The languages the Awami senior leaders have used were too indecent to hear. It proves Awami League leaders have become bankrupt politically.”
