Tangail-8 by-polls today

The by-poll to the Tangail-8 (Sakhipur-Basail) constituency will be held today.
Law enforcers including Rab, police, BGB and Ansar have been deployed to prevent untoward incidents, Saleh Mohammed Tanvir, Tangail superintendent of police, told The Daily Star.
The constituency fell vacant after Awami League (AL) lawmaker Shawkat Momen Shajahan died on January 20.
Shajahan's son Anupom Shajahan Joy of AL, Sadek Siddique of Jatiya Party (Manju), Abdul Malek Miah, a rebel AL candidate, and independent candidate Liakat Ali are contesting the polls.
