Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has resigned as vice-captain of the Bangladesh national team a day after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was named captain for the T20 series against Sri Lanka.

The left-hander reportedly submitted his resignation last night following the end of the second Test against Sri Lanka.

An official of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed Tamim’s resignation.

The BCB officials are waiting for its president, who will return to Dhaka tonight, to take a final decision, the official said.

After Mushfiqur Rahim was rested for the two-match T20 series due to a finger-injury, it was expected that Tamim—who was named vice-captain last month-- would take over the baton.

However the BCB, in a press release yesterday night, declared that Mashrafe would be leading the side.
