Taijul Islam made history at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium on his second international Test match today with an eight-wicket haul against Zimbabwe.

The 22-year-old lad from Natore broke the previous most-wicket-haul record of Bangladesh in a Test match – previously held by Shakib Al Hasan.

Today, on the third day of the first Test series against Zimbabwe, Taijul claimed eight wickets for 39 runs. Shakib’s earlier record was 7 wickets for 36 runs against New Zealand.

The slow-left arm orthodox bowler played for Bangladesh Under-19s, Bangladesh Under-23s, Duronto Rajshahi, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Rajshahi Division.

His Test debut was against West Indies at Kingstown on September 5 where he picked up 5 wickets at 2.87 economy rate.
