Free pizza as Argentina sinks

PizzaBurg gives away free pizza to stay true to its announcement

Right before the Argentina and Saudi Arabia match in the FIFA 2022 World Cup began, PizzaBurg, a popular pizza chain in Dhaka, had announced free pizzas for all if Saudi Arabia could beat all-time favourite, Lionel Messi-led Argentina.

Little did they know the Arab team would pull off one of the biggest upsets, as it won the match 2-1 with an amazing display of football.

PizzaBurg, however, tried to make good on its words with over 100 customers in each of its seven branches throughout the match. It could be seen from a video posted on their page that most of them were Argentina supporters.

"All our branches were full when we made the announcement. We already had over 100 customers. We tried to keep our promise till 7:00pm and each branch gave away around 70 free pizzas each. [490 pizzas in total]," said Romance Khan, production in-charge of all PizzaBurg branches.

When customers began coming in droves, it had to cut its offer short till 7:00pm

The pizza shop faced expected obstacles when calls kept coming in and free pizza was running out.

Asked if they posted the status because they didn't expect Argentina to lose, he said, "It was nothing like that. We knew there is always a 50-50 chance. It was just for fun. I'm glad we were able to fulfil at least a part of the promise."
