Syngenta to export bean seeds to India this month

Agribusiness giant Syngenta Bangladesh Ltd will begin exporting high-yield long bean seeds to India this month.
The company hopes to export around 10 tonnes of seed worth Tk 31 lakh this year and plans to export hybrid okra and tomato seeds next year.
Export of the seeds proves that it is possible to produce high-quality seeds in Bangladesh, said Anwar Faruque, additional secretary and director general (seed) of the agriculture ministry. He spoke at a programme for the seeds' export, at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council in the capital on Monday.
The seeds developed by Syngenta give an additional advantage over India's native seeds as the long beans grown from this seed are consistent in their colour and size, he said.
Sazzadul Hassan, managing director of Syngenta Bangladesh, also spoke.
