Sylhet police sue 800 over OC's death

Police sued 800 people over the death of officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station Mostafizur Rahman who "fell sick" while he was trying to quell Wednesday's clash between two groups of auto-rickshaw drivers and backed by local residents in Balaganj upazila of Sylhet.

Sub-inspector Anwar Hossain on Wednesday night filed the case with the police station making Goalabazar Union Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman Manik Mia, also general secretary of Osmaninagar thana unit of BNP, the prime accused.

Vandalism and assault on police are other major charges brought against 100 named accused, said Neamul Hasan, acting superintendent of police, Sylhet.      

Mostafizur "fell sick" while he along with his team was trying to bring the situation under control in Goalabazar area. He died of a heart attack at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said physicians there.

Police yesterday also arrested 38 people in the case and seized about 40 auto-rickshaws for running those illegally.
