Timeline: Sylhet City polls

Sylhet City Corporation Election-2018 

8:00am - Voting begins

             – BNP mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury casts vote at Raynagar Government Primary School centre at Jherjheripara

8:30am- Ruling party Awami League mayor candidate, Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran casts his vote.

9: 50am - Ariful expresses concern about fair polls

10:00am- Voting was suspended for half an hour from 10:00am to10:30am at Nabinchandra Government Primary School in city.

10:15am- Voting was also suspended for half an hour from 10:15am to 10:45am at Khasdobir Government Primary School in city as some ruling party members allegedly forcibly enter the two booths of the polling station and rigged votes in favour of AL mayor candidate Kamran. 

12:30 PM- a clash broke out between police and suspected BCL men when the later were allegedly stuffing ballot boxes at a polling centre in Shahjalal Jamia Islamia Kamil Madrasah polling station in Sylhet.

11:20am - The Daily Star district correspondent Masuk Hridoy was attacked by AL men around 11:20am in front of Jamia Modinatul Ulum Darussalam Madrasa.

11:30am-Voting was suspended at Shah Gazi Syed Borhanuddin Madrash under ward 24 around 11:30am while Habinandi Government Primary School under ward 27 around 2:00pm following allegations of vote rigging and irregularities.

1:30pm- Executive Magistrate Motiur Rahman was hurt while he was passing through a fight of two groups in Kumarpara around 1:30pm.

3:00pm- BCL men allegedly beat up journalist of Bangla daily Prothom Alo Misbah Uddin when he entered the Dorga Gate Government Primary School centre.

4:00pm - Voting ended in Sylhet city amid allegations of vote rigging and irregularities

4:45pm- BNP ahead based on the results of two centres

- BNP mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury announces to reject polls results (whatever it may be) at a press conference soon after the voting ended

- Ariful makes allegation of polling irregularities

7:30pm- AL ahead based on results of 15 centres

11:00pm- BNP is leading by a small margin based on results of 123 centres
