Suranjit blames infiltrators

Says Shibir, Chhatra Dal causing factional clashes

Ruling Awami League advisory council member Suranjit Sengupta yesterday blamed infiltrators for Bangladesh Chhatra League infighting.

He, however, also said in many cases BCL activists themselves are involved in criminal activities which is unacceptable.

On the other hand, BNP standing committee member Brig (retd) ASM Hannan Shah blamed the government for not taking appropriate measures to stop BCL activists from committing crimes.

He said BCL and Jubo League men alongside police are being used to counter parties opposing the ruling AL.

The two leaders were addressing a dialogue -- BBC Bangladesh Sanglap -- at Biam auditorium in the capital.

“Many Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Dal men have infiltrated BCL and are staging incidents like the clash at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology,” said Sengupta.

Hannan Shah accused the government of not taking any action against BCL.

At the Sanglap, all the participants expressed their concern about the high risk of terrorism in the country and suggested the government take the issue seriously.
