Supreme Court’s Appellate Division to run virtual functions till June 30

Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will conduct judicial functions till June 30 through virtual system, without physical presence, in order to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

The Supreme Court administration issued a circular to this effect today, saying that Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has assigned Justice Md Nuruzzaman to run judicial functions of the apex court in the chamber during this period.

Justice Md Nuruzzaman will hold virtual hearing and dispose of the cases for three working days on June 16, 23 and 30, according to the SC notification.

Justice Md Nuruzzaman on May 30 constituted 11 High Court benches for holding hearing and disposing of the cases through the system.

Judicial functions of more than 300 subordinate courts across the country have been taking place through virtual system since May 11 amid the ongoing coronavirus spread.

More than 27,000 people, who are accused of criminal cases, have already secured bail from those courts in 15 working days till June 4.

The regular activities of courts throughout the country including Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC remained closed since March 26 due to coronavirus outbreak.
