How does one put city life within the proverbial parenthesis? In this concluding edition of The Daily Star Anniversary Supplement, we try to capture snippets from what can be termed as “Dhaka living.” Our focus: a burgeoning upper echelon of society, which is the thirty-plus crowd, and the way they perceive life.

We present the journey of cosmopolites in cities near and far—from the fast-paced life in Paris to the tranquillity of scenic Bhutan, or the spiritual Mecca. We dwell on fashion, style, and the so-called “five-star living,” but also try to navigate the perils that lurk around the corner when desires are set loose.

So, how does one put the entire city experience within a parenthesis? In this ever-changing world, it may never be possible, but these pages are our humble attempt to give a snapshot, however partial, of the lifestyle of the new generation which may open the door for new interpretations.
