Astronomers and amateur skywatchers were delighted last night as a dramatic supermoon accompanied this year’s Perseid meteor shower.

The supermoon was up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than other full moons during the year – two days before the meteor shower reached its peak, reports The Guardian.

In this Facebook album, we shared our readers' experience, how they celebrated the biggest moon of the year.

Known as perigee, the moon reached the point in its orbit that it is closest to the Earth on Sunday, resulting in stunning scenes in places where the skies were clear.

People from all over the world have been sharing their pictures and videos of the supermoon on various social networks.
