Super Cooper & sorry Mashrafe

Super Cooper & sorry Mashrafe

Tom Cooper struck a sublime 72, the highest individual score so far in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Still, his side Netherlands suffered a five-wicket defeat against Zimbabwe at Sylhet yesterday. The Zimbabweans won the game on the last ball, a reverse of their last-ball defeat against Ireland at the same venue a couple of days ago.
This time it was Timycen Maruma's turn to hold his nerve facing the last ball of the innings with his side needing just one run. He not only connected it but hit it for maximum -- a six over long on.
Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor must have been a relieved man with this win that kept his side in the hunt for a place in Super Tens. But Taylor, who played another captain's knock of 49, must admit the fact that Lady Luck is smiling upon the Irish.
Ireland were cruising to a comprehensive victory against UAE for their second straight win. And it looks like Ireland will make it to the Big League from Group B while Bangladesh are on course for the right from Group A. The home side will play their last game against Hong Kong at Chittagong today.
It seems they will win it comfortably unless rain ruins or tremor strikes the port city. However, the bad news for the hosts is that their experienced paceman Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will be sidelined due to an injury. It's sad that injury has cut short Mashrafe's most of the luminous career. And if he misses the next part of the tournament, it will be another unlucky episode for the pacer and a loss for the nation.
