Street theatre festival begins in the city

With the theme “Bangladesh Pathanatok Utsab 2014”, a week-long street theatre festival was launched at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on March 1.
Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival as chief guest while President of Bangladesh Pathnatok Parishad Mannan Hira presided over the programme. Theatre personality Keramat Moula, Golam Kuddus, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote-central vice president; cultural activist Moloy Bhoumik and elocutionist Hasan Arif spoke as special guests on the occasion.
Ahmed Gias, convener of festival organising committee delivered the welcome speech while Mizanur Rahman, secretary of Bangladesh Pathnatok Parishad also delivered speech at the programme.
A total of 40 theatre troupes from across the country are taking part in the festival. Through the festival, Pathnatok Parishad is observing its 12th founding anniversary with their much-acclaimed theatre productions.
At the opening day, Mahakal Natya Sampraday staged “Jago”. The choreography of the troupe has been designed and instructed by Aminul Islam.
Bangladesh Pathanatok Parishad, in collaboration with Janata Bank Ltd, has organised the festival.
