Stop charging extra fees from SSC examinees: HC

Stop charging extra fees from SSC examinees: HC

The High Court today ordered the government to immediately stop charging additional examination fees from Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidates by their schools across the country.
During hearing a rule, the HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman said the authorities of the institutions cannot charge extra examination fees from the SSC candidates in any way.
Earlier on November 10, the bench issued a rule on suo moto (of its own) move asking the government to explain as to why charging extra examination fees from SSC candidates should not be declared illegal, Assistant Attorney General Swarup Kanti Das told The Daily Star.
It issued the rule following a report published on the daily Jugantor on the same day saying that the exam fee for an SSC student has been fixed at Tk 1,400 by the government, but the candidates have to pay eight times more for filling up a form for appearing in the examination.
