"Pajore Chandroban" Set for Theatre Olympics in India

Time and again theatre has proved itself to be a powerful platform to explore the stories of human life. On March 9, 2018, the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpokala Academy was transformed into a space that depicted the stories of the refugees, forceful migration, murders, ethnic conflicts, as well as stories of corruption in our society and worldwide. The young graduate students of Theatre and Performance Studies Department, Dhaka University, captivated its audience for a good one hour and fifteen minutes with their production, "Pajore Chandroban". It is not only a success at home, the team will be travelling to Patna on March 13, 2018, and on to Delhi on March 15, 2018, at the 8th Theatre Olympics scheduled to be held in India.

The play is a work of diligence. The students spent time at the refugee camps in Cox's Bazar for an ethnographic research. "Performing in a different country is a moment of pride and boosts confidence of our students," Director of this play Professor Dr Israfil Shahin says. His productions are also designed in such a way that it is worthy to be presented in international festivals and competitions. The Director intends to take a team of young theatre performers to the central jail to conduct workshops with the convicts. He believes, artistic rehabilitation is better than punishment theory.

The production has received praising comments from critics and the audience. The young team aspires to bring in positive vibe from the upcoming Theatre Olympics. Another team will perform the same production in Indonesia soon.
