Women as Job Creators: YSSE organises workshop on women entrepreneurship

The Youth School for Social Entrepreneurs (YSSE), in association with Entrepreneurship, Management, Communication and Business Club (EMCBC) organised a workshop at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh this month.  The tagline for the workshop was "Inspiring women entrepreneurs."

The workshop started with a keynote speech from prominent economist and former governor Dr Atiur Rahman. The workshop featured successful female entrepreneurs and panel discussions with active participation from the audience. 250 aspiring female entrepreneurs joined the workshop, sharing and discussing their ideas with the experts.

Zara Mahbub, Country Director &CEO at KITC Limited, Rezwana Khan, General Secretary, Bangladesh Women in Technology, Ashfaq Zaman, President of LEAD, Advisor of Queen Young Leaders, Sanjida Khandoker, Founder of the2hourjob.com, Soheli Ferdous, Inspector General of Police and Armin Khan, Founder of Romoni.xyz, shared their own experiences and expertise with the audience.

The first panel discussion was moderated by Jenia Kabir Suchona, Staff Correspondent of Channel 24, the panelists included Shagufe Hossain, Founder & Executive Director, Leaping Boundaries; Achia Nila, Founder of Women in Digital; Zaiba Tahyya, Founder & CEO of Female Empowerment Movement (FEM). The panelists discussed the challenges of women entrepreneurs, how social barriers are a key factor in our country and how young generations of women should contribute in breaking the barriers for a better future.

The second panel discussion was moderated by Fatema Tuz Johora, Executive Director of It's Humanity Foundation (IHF). The panelists were: Esrat Karim Eve, Founder & Director, AMAL Foundation, Nasima Akter Nisha, Founder & President, Women & E-commerce and Jannatul Ferdous, a final year BBA student from Dhaka City College as a representative from the audience.

Noore Alam Siddique Zico, Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Information, G M Kamrul Hassan, Group CEO of Igloo Ice Cream, Dairy and Foods LTD, were present as special guests.

Renowned Bangladeshi fashion designer Bibi Russell graced the workshop with her presence and shared her story of entrepreneurship.

"Sidsel Bleiken, Embassador of the Embassy of Norway in Dhaka gave a speech at the event.

Five women received the YSSE Nari Uddogta Sommanona 2018. The recipients were: Bibi Russell, Achia Nila, Dr Shahin Akter, Laboni Ahmed and Sraboni Roy.

The event was hosted by news presenter Orlendo Gomez and Tasnim Ashraf Nova. YSSE President Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf Hossain honoured the guests with crests and gift hampers.
