Sir John Wilson School holds TedxYouth Talk

Young and talented individuals from the country came together at the auditorium of Sir John Wilson School on December 15, 2018, to spread the message of innovation, leadership and crafting a better future to the attending students at the first TedxYouth Talk at the school.  Aptly, the motto of the event was, "Think outside the box."



TedxYouth at Sir John Wilson School is the latest in the long line of functions the school hosts for the betterment of the students.  A-level students of the school took the lead in organising the event, starting from acquiring the international license from TedEd to arranging the logistical elements.  "The school believes in education and social welfare.  We let the students organise events, to teach them about leadership.  The funds raised by these events all proceed towards charity," commented Sabrina Shaheed, Principal of Sir John Wilson School.

 

The talk was inaugurated by the principal, who welcomed the speakers and the attendees to learn, share and discuss ideas. She thanked the sponsors of the event and made a brief speech on her hopes that the day will be a memorable experience and an inspiring session for all her students. The show was hosted by Ahmed Farhan and organised by Maisha Zahir and her team. The ideation of the event was credited to Fardeen Munim, an alumnus of the school.



The event had a host of young minds from successful startups come up on stage to recount their story of reaching success. For a start, Sifat Hossain, Director of HR & Culture of Pathao inspired the students to try out all their ideas, no matter if they fail or succeed, as one of the ideas will surely take them to the top of the ladder.



Marina Tabassum, Architect of Museum of Independence and Sajid Iqbal, founder of Change emphasised that one does not have to have an abundance of technical knowledge to change the world, all that is required is a positive outlook on life and the courage to take the baton and run.



Kamrul Hasan, CEO of Nagar Krishi urged the students to focus on nature and simplicity and talked of his project, Little Farmer, which inspires children to attune themselves to nature and in building up a healthier environment. Sir John Wilson School proudly hosts their own Little Farmer initiative on campus, cultivating different species of flowers.



The latter part of the event  was started by the speech of Ashna Chowdhury of Thrive Women, encouraging the younger generation to focus on the importance of bettering one's own self instead of making comparisons.

A female chauffeur, Yasmin Kona made all the audience rise up from their seats in respect, as she narrated her story, which was riddled with hardship, and yet she survived and is prospering currently.



Internationally acclaimed photographer, GMB Akash, amazed the crowd by showcasing his life's works,  and talked about  how he helps the people in need.



Informing the listeners of the importance of technology, Jashim Ahmed of ODDUU Ltd, presented his talk on 'Internet of Things' and data automation services, followed by Farzeen Ferdous Alam of Oggro Ventures, narrating his tale of being a dropout and still succeeding in life through his determination and passion to follow his dreams.

The last speaker to light up the stage was none other than the famous singer, Farzana Wahid Shayan with her harmonica and guitar singing about how awareness creates happiness and emphasisng on her definition of creating a universal bonding of life.



TedxYouth at Sir John Wilson School further organised an open microphone session for the students to showcase their public speaking skills in front of the esteemed speakers and it also had musical sessions, led by the in school band,  Indecision.
