“People call me Lamborghini Akash”
23-year-old Narayanganj local Akash Ahmed recently constructed a car that resembles a Lamborghini. Akash is an autorikshaw mechanic and settled in Narayanganj. "I got all my training from my father and both maternal and paternal grandfathers, who were also mechanics", says Akash.
It took him fourteen months to complete the car, a two-seater, operated by rechargeable battery and a body made of steel. The car can run upto 10 hours at 45 km/h. The doors are automated, and the car has a working sound system and lighting. "This is my first production and it is totally experimental. It took me around BDT 3.5 lakh, but in future, I will try minimizing the cost to BDT 1 lakh," explains Akash. On asking why he chose to recreate a Lamborghini, he replied, "I was passionate about cars since childhood, I grew up playing with parts and motors. I have watched many car races and music videos on television and liked the Lamborghini design the most. Since then I had a dream to build a car like this."
Akash wants to keep the first car to himself, and meanwhile, he has started getting orders for more cars like this from all over the country. This is supposed to be a good deal with low price, environment-friendly and attractive design. He got offers from international markets as well. "I got calls from three different countries till now; they want me to go to their countries. But I want to stay in Bangladesh and keep doing experiments and get going. I know if I go to abread I can learn many advanced things, but I am confident enough that I will be able to do well even staying here too. I want to represent our country in the international platform by making something even more advanced in the future," says Akash. Except for the wheels and steering wheel, all other parts of the car are completely manufactured by himself. He wants to have a license for making more cars, before that he cannot take orders. He also states that he does not wish to sell the entitlement to any other entity.
Akash's father owns a workshop in Narayanganj, and he selflessly supported his son on his cause. "Our family is not very wealthy, but my father helped me pursuing my dream, I will always be grateful to him," says a grateful Akash. Many renowned faces have already visited Akash to see the Lamborghini, and have appreciated his efforts. "People now know me as Lamborghini Akash, and this inspires me a lot. There are people who make fun of me, nonetheless, I take them positively and thank them for keeping me in their thoughts," asserts Akash.
