Health and Hygiene Olympiad 2021 concludes
For the first time in Bangladesh, Health and Hygiene Olympiad committee organised Health and Hygiene Olympiad, this year. 2,000 participants joined the online Olympiad, along with 250 campus ambassadors across the country. A total of 5000 participants from the remotest areas of the country participated in the offline platform of Health and Hygiene Olympiad 2021.
Health and Hygiene Olympiad committee specialises in the development of health awareness and hygiene practices amongst various classes of students, from different parts of the country. From online awareness to arranging workshops for the underprivileged even in remote areas, Health and Hygiene Olympiad is committed to the message that good health and hygiene is everyone's basic right.
The main objective of this competition is to inspire the youth to promote hygiene practices in society, improve health-related knowledge and develop leadership skills including strong morale and logical reasoning, to help students create and implement practical solutions to various problems in their communities. It intends to teach young minds to initiate and make the changes they want to see in the world.
"We planned to create a platform where students from remote areas and all walks of life can participate," shares Shahnaz Raihan Summy, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Health and Hygiene Olympiad. "Health and Hygiene Olympiad aims to find out 'Hygiene Heroes,' who will guide young leaders and Bangladesh in troubled times."
Health and Hygiene Olympiad seeks to unite the youth population throughout the country. Their Health and Hygiene Heroes have already started organising workshops for the underprivileged children in six districts throughout Bangladesh.
Proper sanitation, safe drinking water, housing, and resources are considerable issues in measuring living standards, as well as basic immunisation and nutrition. Underprivileged children grow up with an extremely limited scope of health and education. Especially with the pandemic still ongoing, these children are not only being affected by COVID-19 health-wise but also losing what little opportunity they have for education. The underprivileged children are provided with offline workshops regularly.
The Olympiad was divided into four categories: Secondary category from 8th-10th Grade, SSC Examinee/ O level; Higher Secondary category from 11th-12th Grade, HSC Examinee / A-Level, Senior category with participants from all universities, and an Offline category. The winners received monetary prizes, t-shirts, certificates, crests, hygiene boxes (soap, masks, gloves, sanitisers). A special scholarship of 5000 BDT was awarded to the best participant.
The online exam was taken on the first week of April, the results were published recently, announcing three top winners from each category. Nafis Fuad Dewan from Rajshahi Education Board Government Model School and College, Plabon Kumar Roy from Dinajpur Zilla School, and Abdullah Al Hadi Rownak from Cantonment Public School and College, Saidpur won top three prizes in the Secondary category.
Liyan Ghosh from Mazid Jarina Foundation School and College, Humaisha Ridita from Dinajpur Government College, and Miraz Hossain Chowdhury from Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School bagged the prizes in the Higher Secondary category.
Nilufa Akter from the University of Chittagong, Md Redwan Hossain from Bangladesh University of Professionals, Md Masum from Daffodil International University, Rojina Hembrom from Santalpolli, Dinajpur, Sushil Murmu from Choklapara, Dinajpur and Md Mahamud Hasan from Khanzahanabad Gafuria Madrasha and Orphanage, Khulna were among other winners.
