EES and EMK celebrates International Education Day 2020
The world celebrated the first-ever International Day of Education on 24 January 2019, which was proclaimed by the United Nations National Assembly in 2018. This year, Education Day was celebrated across the globe.
With the motto, 'Leave No one Behind', Education Entrepreneur's Society and EMK Center jointly hosted International Education Day Celebration 2020, a daylong event, recently.
The programme was inaugurated by Aaqib Mohammad Shatil, Program Coordinator, EMK Center and Golam Rafsan Jani, President, Education Entrepreneur's Society.
Students from different educational sectors participated in a debate on the topic of "Bangladesh Education System Creating Division". Three teams from English, Bangla and Madrasah Medium backgrounds, pointed out many specific problems in our education system and suggested ways to make the system more diverse and inclusive for the future. Nur A Shafee Ahnaf of Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS), moderated the debate. Mashfiq Mizan Mugdho and Md Maruf Hasan, debaters of DUDS, were present as judges for the debate.
An idea hunt was arranged to promote and highlight the students' views and the theme was 'Our Dream School/College'. Five teams in the School/College category and four teams in the University category presented their ideas in front of the judges. Mehnaz Aziz, Deputy Manager of Recruitment, Teach for Bangladesh and Fazle Rabby Moon, Program Manager, Khan Academy Bangla, were judges for the presentation.
Razoun Siddiky Tohin, EducationUSA adviser of EMK, took a session focusing on undergraduate and higher studies in the USA, providing comprehensive and current information about opportunities.
In the education start-up showcase session, three emerging youth organisations, Eshara, Online Sohopathi and NextCorp, working towards achieving SDG-4 in Bangladesh, introduced their work to the audience.
Next, an Ed Talk was organised with educators, edupreneurs and individuals from different organisations, who shared their views on the topic "Removing barriers of inclusive education: making inclusion into a reality". An inclusive set of panellists, including G M Rakibul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Education Administration, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Shidartho Goushami, Project Officer, UNDP Bangladesh and Afsana Sadiq Atuly, Program Director, Leadership Development, Teach for Bangladesh, shared their perspectives and experiences in inclusive education from their fields of expertise.
A special cultural dance performance, presented by a specially-abled children from HI Care School, was one of the main attractions of the event.
Lastly, a short prize giving ceremony was held, where the respective judge panel announced the winners of the quiz competition, debate, idea hunt and special performance.
"I have no doubt, this celebration of International Education Day 2020 will create a greater impact on students, educators and other stakeholders in education. On this day, EES promises to build the capacities of the spirit of creativity, inquiry and entrepreneurial leadership among students," shared Golam Rafsan Jani, President of EES.
Education Entrepreneur's Society is an organisation working for youth development and empowerment through education. They started their journey in 2017 with the tagline, "Innovation-Education-Action".
