Advocating for the Rohingya refugee community

Rise for Rohingya is a non-profit organisation that advocates for over 730,000 Rohingya, who, imperiled by a campaign of ethnic cleansing, have fled Myanmar to the neighbouring Bangladesh. Founded by students at New York University in 2017, the group strives for the successful and dignified repatriation of the Muslim minority group to Myanmar. While its project is decidedly global, Rise for Rohingya has taken on numerous projects regionally as well. It has hosted seminars at institutions like NYU, Columbia University, Rutgers University, and Hunter College, while also holding an annual essay contest for high school students, addressing the moral and political implications of the Rohingya crisis.

On the fundraising front, Rise for Rohingya has raised and donated funds to Doctors Without Borders, the JAAGO Foundation, and Children on the Edge—organisations that are dedicated to serving refugee camps in Bangladesh. It recently presented Voices, a series of interviews with scholars and practitioners who offer their thoughts on this humanitarian challenge through the lens of their respective work and disciplines.
