5th National English Carnival at Notre Dame College

The National English Carnival 2019 presented by IFIC Bank and powered by The Daily Star was organised by Notre Dame English Club at the Notre Dame College from February 7 to 9.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Dr Patrick De Gaffney, CSC. former principal of Notre Dame College, an alumnus of Notre Dame University, Indiana and currently the Vice Chancellor of Notre Dame University Bangladesh.

"The English Carnival organised by Notre Dame English Club is one of the largest English festivals in Bangladesh. With more than 3000 registered participants in the carnival this year, we look forward to another brilliant fest," he said.

The eligible participation groups were 'P'- (Classes 6-8), 'S'-(Classes 9-10), 'C'-(Classes 11-12) and U'- (undergraduate students). The carnival welcomed participants from all over the country. Fifteen events, including English Olympiad, Spell Master, Word Play, Turn Coat, Extempore, the Game of Thrones Quiz and the Mega Quiz were held at the carnival. The English Olympiad, Game of Thrones Quiz and Word Play were favourites of the young participants.  

The closing ceremony of the programme was held on February 9. Professor Tahmina Ahmed, Department of English, University of Dhaka, graced the occasion as the chief guest.  The special guests of the event were Md Nurul Hasnat, DMD and Head of Business at IFIC Bank Limited and Tajdin Hassan, Head of Marketing at The Daily Star. Dr Fr  Hemonto Pius Rozario, CSC, Principal of Notre Dame College, was the convener of the programme.
