The Dry Days

PHOTOS AND TEXT: PRONOV GHOSH

Every five years, Bangladesh, especially our northwestern regions get terribly affected by major droughts which hamper our crop production. The agricultural drought, linked to soil moisture scarcity, occurs at different stages of crop growth, development and reproduction. Monsoon failure often brings famine to the affected regions, and as a result crop production gets reduced drastically. Apart from the agricultural loss, droughts also have a negative impact on livestock population, land degradation, health and employment.
