Bangladesh youth delegation calls on Indian president

A 100-member youth delegation from Bangladesh called upon President of India Pranab Mukherjee yesterday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the Indian capital New Delhi.

The Indian president warmly welcomed the youth delegation, currently on an eight-day tour to India, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, according to a press release published on the website of the president's office.

India and Bangladesh share common history, culture and struggle against British imperialism, the president said according to the press release.

He congratulated Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commission in Dhaka for this initiative, the release read.  

This type of exchange helps people of both countries to know each other more intimately and share their thoughts, beliefs and faith, he said. 

Mukherjee also said he was sure that the spirit of love, affection and understanding which will be the result of this exchange programme will create a unifying bridge between the two countries. People of the two countries should move and work together, the president added.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka in co-ordination with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Government of Bangladesh organised the visit of Bangladeshi youth delegation to India every year since 2012.

The exchange programme involves interaction with local youth, trips to tourist and cultural sites and introduction to economic and social activities.
