Samir Hafiz has tried it all – all the sub-genres of metal, rock, and he recently starred with his team of musicians at the Pop Republic, organised by Live Square. "I like to accept challenges and see where I stand," he says. Having produced some incredible instrumentals, Samir is now the most sought after guitarist in the industry today. He talks to the Star Weekend about his inspirations, life and music.

What was your first guitar?
My first guitar was a very shady looking black Gibson les Paul clone. It was a graduation gift from my teacher Labu Rahman from Feedback. You may see this guitar in the famous Melay Jaire Danish condensed milk ad.

If not rock...?
If not rock, then probably electronic music. I dig everything from Trip-Hop to EDM.

Name three guitar inspiration of yours.
David Gilmour, Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani.

What amp do you use?
ENGL Ironball.

If you had to pick anybody to be your manager, who would it be?
Tipu bhai from Warfaze!

What is your motto in life?
Less is more.

Your message to the young ones trying to get into the rock music scene in Bangladesh?
Be patient, be observant, be respectful, be a listener, always be relaxed and be yourself. Your music is your reflection.
