Son of legendary actors Tariq Anam Khan and Nima Rahman, Ariq followed their footsteps into the world of theatre, and has been a part of Natya Kendra for 7 years. 'Bonduk Juddho' is one production that Ariq has earned a lot of praise for. In the recent 3-4 years, Ariq has also been a part of numerous television shows and productions, and has a keen interest in directing and filmmaking. The Star Weekend caught up with the young actor to find out some more interesting facts about him!

What are you three favourite films?
Hard to name only 3, I have a list of at least 20! But if I MUST choose-- Pather Panchali (Satyajit Ray), Ran (Akira Kurosawa), Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock)

If you had to choose between theatre and the silver screen, which would it be and why?
Acting in theatre, and directing on the silver screen.

Who inspires you the most in your life?
The lives of all great actors and directors, including my father.

When not busy with acting, we can find Ariq…
Planning and preparing myself. I like to observe and analyze everything and everybody around me. An actor or a director can prepare themselves 24/7 if he/she chooses.

What is your life's motto?
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". So take that one step today. Keep improving and keep moving forward – and you will find endless possibilities.

What do you tell yourself before stepping on to the stage?
I usually try to think about my character, who I am, where I am coming from, etc, as well as the back-story of the play and the role of my character. I also concentrate on the very first thing that I am going to do on stage. I keep on repeating it to myself, and have found that it helps me to concentrate.

What are three of your favourite productions that you have been a part of?
Aroj Charitammrito, Dui Je Chhilo Ek Chakor, and Bonduk Juddho – all stage plays, and all 3 are special in some way.

What advice would you give to young aspiring actors?
Have the desire to be the best in what you do. Don't settle for mediocrity.
