Winter cakes in Dhaka

Winter cake or pitha is a long-standing Bangalee tradition. It was an integral part of Nabanna festival (celebration of harvest season's arrival).

Although Nabanna festival has faded with time, winter cakes continue to be valued among Bangalee urban dwellers. Every year during the winter season in this massive metropolis, retailers set up stalls to sell cakes in places throughout the city. Bhapa pitha, patisapta, and chitai pitha with various kinds of bhorta and chatni are the most popular items sold at these stalls.
