Sri Lanka beat India by 6 wickets in the final of the World T20 trophy to win their maiden T20 trophy at Mirpur of the capital this evening.
Kumar Sangakkara, playing in his last T20, led the chase of 130 with a well-composed 52 off 35 balls to steer the Lankans to their first ICC global event trophy in seven attempts since 1996.
Thisara Perera provided the final flourish with 21 runs off 14 balls.
Earlier, a brilliant bowling display from Sri Lanka restricted the destructive Indian batting line-up to a sub-par total of 130.
All five of the Sri Lankan bowlers bowled with great control and maintained tight lines and lengths to slow down Indian progress.
Barring Virat Kohli, none of the batsmen looked particularly fluent, with Yuvraj Singh eating up 21 deliveries to score 11 runs.
Kohli was once again in sublime touch, notching up 77 from 58 balls which included four sixes and five boundaries.
Earlier, stand-in captain won the toss for Sri Lanka and elected to bowl first against India.
State-owned television channel BTV and private channel Maasranga TV are broadcasting the match live from 7:00pm.
India is the only unbeaten team in the tournament, winning five games in a row and beating South Africa comprehensively in the second semi-final.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are currently ranked number 1 in T20 world rankings, and barring one match against England, have maintained a winning streak that dates back to December last year.
Spinners of both teams are likely to be the key in the match, as Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin and Amit Mishra have been driving India to comfortable wins throughout the tournament.
Sri Lankan spinners, though a bit patchy at times, have also gained respect from the batsmen, the cream of their performances being Rangana Heraths unbelivable figure of 5 wickets for just 3 runs against New Zealand.
The match will also feature the much-discussed clash between ace Indian batsman Virat Kohli and Sri Lanka's pace spearhead Lasith Malinga.
Indian skipper MS Dhoni also stands on the brink of another achievement in his already eventful resume, hoping to be the first captain to lead the team in three successive world titles, as his team are already the champions in the 50-over World Cup and the Champions Trophy.
