Ziaur slips to fourth

Grand Master Ziaur Rahman slipped from third to fourth position in the 3rd Kolkata International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament as he suffered defeat in the sixth round in Kolkata, India yesterday.

Zia, who shared third place with three other players, lost to GM Deep Sengupta and fell to a joint-fourth position alongside 19 players while Turkmenistan GM Tukhaev Adam is on top with 5.5 points.

However, Zia's teammates Sheikh Nasir Ahmed and FM Aminul Islam beat their respective rivals --Arpan Das and Priyanka Nutakki—to raise their points tally to four from six matches. Meanwhile, FM Fahad and FM Mahfuz lost to CM Mendoncal Leon Luke and GM Thipsay Praveen respectively to stick to three points each.
